AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND NEW FRANKLIN ZONING CODE SECTION 800.01 (SUPPLEMENTAL LAND USE REGULATIONS) AND TO AMEND THE DEFINITION OF STRUCTURE, ACCESSORY FOUND IN ARTICLE 14 OF THE NEW FRANKLIN ZONING CODE AND DECLARING THAT THIS ORDINANCE SHALL BE EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY UPON PASSAGE.

11. MAYOR’S REPORT

New Franklin Akron Zoo appreciation day is September 1 through 5. Tickets are available in the Administration office.

Norton Schools will have a bond issue on the ballot this November. If the issue passes, the state will pay for 51% to build new schools. This would include a stipulation and funding to demolish Grill School. If this happens, the City could have the option of acquiring the five acres for park purposes for one dollar.

Someone has stolen one of the solar STOP signs at Van Buren and Vanderhoof Road.

The Police Department received a DARE grant for $10,021.34.

The City received a rebate check from the Bureau of Workers Compensation in the amount of $32,332.04.

The Fire Department received a Assistance to Firefighters grant in the total amount of $94,795.00. The federal share is $90,056.00 of the approved amount and our share of the cost is $4,749.00. Money will be used to purchase 1500 smoke detectors, to be distributed to residents, written fire prevention materials, $3000 to help pay for an Administrative Coordinator, safety videos and other fire safety items.

Council received a copy of the Thank you letter from Mrs. Pappas, Principal at Nolley School, for Chief Davidson for Safety City complimenting Officer Garry Prebynski and the Police Department.

A reminder that the 3rd Annual Portage Lakes Pirate Days is this weekend sponsored by the Kiwanis.

Dragon Boat Festival at the state park was a smashing success with over 1200 people involved and 26 teams. The Mayor thanked everyone who donated to the event.

11-A FINANCE REPORT

Susan Cooke stated the statement of June cash position balance was $3,394,952.65

12. OLD BUSINESS

Mr. Parsons said he had received calls from Mr. David Houpt at 6112 S. Oval with flooding problems. Discussion followed. Mr. Parsons will be in contact with Mr. Houpt.

Mrs. Jones asked everyone to use the recycle bins at the church and school.
